#FindAustinAndPerry

I have been glued to the news about the two missing boys from Jupiter, Florida. With each update I hope upon hope to hear good news. Austin Stephanos and Perry Cohen, both 14, disappeared off the coast of Jupiter on Friday and haven’t been seen since. Their boat was found yesterday, capsized off from the Ponce de Leon Inlet.

Growing up in Jupiter, I know it’s not a crazy thing for two 14 year olds to head out to the ocean, unsupervised. My little brother growing up was always on the water, with friends. Boating, diving, spear fishing…going to the Bahamas! It’s just how it is in a small beach town. Many kids I grew up with had boats of their own at young ages. And just like Austin & Perry, were very capable of handling themselves on the water.

Sometimes, though, things happen. The ocean is a very beautiful and amazing thing. It can also be very unforgiving. Seasoned Boat Captains can be overtaken by the ocean just the same as anyone else.

Today’s news suggests the boys may have made a floatation device out of their cooler and their life jackets. I’m so relieved that there is still hope. My heart has been slowly breaking, thinking of their families and what they are going through. It’s been phenomenal to watch the community around them come together.  I will continue to hope for a good outcome. I hope you will too.

Hugs to you all. – Nicole

At The Juno Beach Pier

It’s been quite awhile since I’ve been to the Juno Beach Pier. I forgot how amazing the view of our gorgeous Atlantic Ocean is from there! I took a leisurely, evening stroll down the pier with my husband last weekend, and it did not disappoint!

IMG_8056B

Located just off from the Ocean Rescue Headquarters at 14776 Highway A1A, Juno Beach, Florida 33408. The pier is the perfect spot for anglers, beach goers and spectators. Admission fees are $4.00 for anglers and $1.00 for spectators. If you’re fishing off the pier, they have a a small bait shop located right at the admission gate. Need an ice cream on a hot day? They have that too!

IMG_8057

Admittedly, I’m not a very good fisherlady. Honestly I don’t have the patience for it and watching the caught fish flop around out of the water, breaks my heart every time! However, it was quite humorous to walk down the pier and see the fish out smarting the fisherman the whole time! There were HUGE fish below the pier, probably close to 50 anglers all up and down the pier and not one of them were catching anything!

IMG_8061B
Check out the size of those bad boys!

It was awesome to watch the giant bait balls swim in formation, making perfect circles around the larger fish. The perspective from the pier is really cool!

If you look close, you can see the stingray that swam by.

You just can’t help but feel yourself relax looking at the view from the pier! Not only are the views spectacular, the pier also plays an important role with keeping our local marinelife safe and the environment healthy. You can learn more about the Responsible Pier Initiative on the Loggerhead Marinelife Center’s website here.

This is just one of the MANY reasons I love working & living in Jupiter, Florida. If you live in the Jupiter area, be sure and take a some time to enjoy the pier from time to time. It really is quite lovely.

Meet Carin – Artist at Carin Wagner Fine Art

This post was originally posted HERE on Tuesday, April 21, 2015

Today’s blog interview is with Carin Wagner, a local artist in our area. I met Carin several years ago when I worked at a local Fine Art Printer. She paints really beautiful, really big landscape pieces that will take your breath away! She was always one of our sweetest clients and so easy to work with. I contacted her a few weeks ago and she generously agreed to give me an interview. So, meet Carin!

12 Partially Obscured

1. Tell us a little about yourself.

South Florida has been my home since I was 11 years old. I am lucky enough to have a husband, 3 children, aged 14, 15 and 18 and 3 pets. Two cats chose us to be their caregivers and a bunny rabbit hopped into our hearts 10 years ago.

2. When did you first have an interest in art?

When I was in kindergarten our teacher assigned us a self portrait. When it was complete, she took mine and showed it to the other teachers and gave it high praise. Being one of six children, praise was rare- so I was thrilled to be noticed!

3. How did you get started in the “Art for a living” field? How long have you been in the biz?

After a childhood spent dreaming of paintings, I went to school for advertising design, hoping for a stable source of income. After a few years in the field, I was offered a mural job at what was then Pier 66 hotel and Marina. From there, a yacht brokerage firm commissioned me. In excitement, I quit my day job! There have been some awesome ups and downs( not just on ladders and scaffolds). I have been painting for a living since 1988.

4. What do you find most challenging about running your own business?

The most challenging part of the business for me is the marketing component. Most artists just want to create, and I am no exception. If you don’t attend to the sales aspect, you end up with a lot of art to dust and very little to eat!

5. What is the most rewarding thing about running your company?

There are at least two incredibly rewarding things about my work. The first is the sense of accomplishment when I have turned a visual dream into an actual piece of art- some of my paintings take 6 months to complete. The second is when someone who has purchased my work or viewed it, tells me that it evoked a particular emotion, or reminds them of a lovely place. When someone who has purchased my work sends me a photo of the art, in a place of pride in their home and then tells me how peaceful it makes them feel, it makes me incredibly glad!

6. What do you do on your days off?

As a mom, you rarely get a full day off, but I love to get out in nature, gardening, hiking, biking, and kayaking all make me very happy.

7. How do you juggle work & family?

Juggling a family and a career is a challenge. There is a certain level of guilt- no matter which one you are attending to-you worry about neglecting the other! Our time with our children is really short though, so I am just happy to be in this crazy, busy time!

Yosemite Nikon 341-1

8. Who is your favorite Superhero and why?

My favorite superhero is Elastigirl (The Incredibles). I would love to be able to stretch that far and turn myself into a living parachute that holds my family and keeps them from harm!

9. Where can we find You and your artwork online?

You can find me at Carin Wagner Gallery or on Facebook. My work is at RosettaStone Gallery and M&M Studios in Jupiter and will be at the Cultural Council in Lake Worth over the summer.

Thank you for sharing with us, Carin! Your work is lovely!!

Tequesta and Jupiter both have many small businesses that make living here great! If you’d like to know more info on how you can move to our area, contact me! Myself and the rest of the Sean Underwood Real Estate Team would LOVE to help you find the perfect home in Jupiter or Tequesta!

Thanks for reading the blog, friends!! Let me know how you like the interviews and if you have any suggestions on who to interview next, please feel free to nominate them!

Cheers, Nicole

Meet Kelly, Owner of Unhinged Boutique

This post was originally posted HERE on April 14th, 2015

So I discovered Unhinged Boutique on Instagram. Kelly liked one of my photos so, I checked out her profile. That’s when I discovered her shop! I visited out her website and found out she’s doing REALLY awesome things.

frontofbusinesscard1

 1. Tell us a little about yourself.  Kelly Rothrock the owner of Unhinged Boutique and I grew up in a small town outside of St. Louis, Missouri.  The town I lived in was Fults, IL and consisted of 26 people.  I was your simple Midwest girl living on 18 acres with my pet chickens, bunnies and dogs.   I moved to St. Louis when I turned 18 and later met my now husband there. Once we got engaged I packed up everything I had in my car and moved to North Palm Beach. My husband and I recently purchased a home in Jupiter and after living in Florida for 3 years now, I cannot image living anywhere else. We are eager to grow our family soon, and are getting our first dog together next week.

2. When did you start the Unhinged Boutique brand?
I decided to start Unhinged Boutique because I wanted to do something I was passionate about while making a difference.  I had lost my mother from breast cancer that later turned into brain cancer back in 2013. Once profitable I will be giving back 5% of the profits to cancer research. I wanted the Unhinged Boutique brand to be different than what you usually find in South Florida. I use the term “Unique Simplicity” because all of Unhinged Boutiques clothing is simple and under stated. The jewelry is a mix of natural stones and druzys.  You won’t find palazzo pants or bold prints here!

3. Who makes up the Unhinged Boutique crew?

Me, myself and I. Running a boutique on a website helps me keep my cost down because it’s just me.  I am not paying rent for a retail space or paying someone an hourly wage to come in on Saturday because I want the day off. I am the one modeling the clothes, tracking the inventory and shipping the packages. There is no closing time because I have people purchasing items all hours of the night.  It is pretty much a one man band except for the help of my husband who is the photographer in training. I like to joke that our fur baby Cooper, a Golden Retriever will be in charge of the inventory. I doubt this is an option is his training, but look out because he may appear in a few of our product photos.

4. What do you find most challenging about running your own business?

The most challenging part of running Unhinged Boutique is photographing the clothes! It looks like a lot of fun, but taking pictures can be pretty time consuming.  I do not lay the clothing on the floor or set up an outfit on a mannequin. With being and online boutique it is important to show all the clothing on a real person, to give you the best idea of how it will fit.  A typical “photo shoot” from set up to take down takes us between 3-5 hours.

5. What is the most rewarding thing about running your company?

I enjoy being my own boss. I feel proud to show people my website, and knowing what I am doing is a positive thing.  Seeing my customers’ happy and hearing people’s survivor stories makes it all worth it for me.  You get what you put into it, and even though I am the new girl in this industry I already see the work I have put into my business already paying off.

6. What do you do on your days off?

My husband and I enjoy renovating and home décor.  The work never ends at our house! If we are not painting, landscaping or hauling furniture then you can usually find us at Homegoods.

7. How do you juggle work & family?

Since we do not have kids, it is not that hard to juggle work and family.  My husband and I dedicate ourselves to our work. But we both know when it’s time to shut off work and have “us” time.  He travels A LOT, so when he’s home I will try to schedule my Unhinged Boutique parties on certain nights so I’m not gone sporadically in the evenings.

8. Who is your favorite Superhero and why?

My mother will always be my hero.  I remember growing up she decided she was going to start building homes.  She then built 6 custom homes after the flood of Valmeyer in 1993.  In 1996 she started up another business taking care of senior citizens in their home.  Her joy for caring for others brought her to becoming a nanny until she passed away at 63. She achieved whatever she set her mind to, and for that she will always be my hero.

9. Where can we find Unhinged Boutique online?

Unhinged Boutique is an online only boutique and can be found on most social media sites.  I try to post an #OOTD everyday on Instagram.   On the website we also feature a blog that will give you an inside scoop on myself, the trade shows I attend and ways we are giving back to help the fight against cancer.

You can find us online at:

Email to arrange a shopping party or arrange pickup at unhingedboutique@gmail.com

Facebook: facebook.com/unhingedboutique

Twitter: @unhingedboutik

10. Is there anything else you would like is to know? Upcoming events, etc.

We love to do shopping parties! I also have a collapsible rolling rack that travels to my event locations in Palm Beach County. We have a lot of shopping parties coming up in the month of April and quickly filling up for May.  If you would like to arrange a party, please email in advance because space is limited.

I also have a promo code to cancel the shipping charge on the website, giving local customers the option to meet up in the area to collect their merchandise rather than have it shipped to their home. If you see a car driving around with “Unhinged Boutique” magnets on the door we are usually making a delivery so just give me a wave. ☺

Thank you for sharing with us, Kelly! We love hearing about women business owners in our area!

What’s So Great About Jupiter Florida

DblBeach47_1

If you live in Jupiter, Florida, like me, you know what a fantastic slice of paradise we have here. If you don’t live here, let me share a little bit about this beautiful, beach side community with you!

Jupiter, Florida is known for it’s quiet, small town feel. Over the last 15 years, our little town has really blossomed. We host a variety of residents, from families in their forever homes, to snowbirds here for the season…and everything in between!

Want to learn more about the history of Jupiter? Visit the Town Website, for in-depth info.

Today, like most days around here, was a perfect beach day! I took a few minutes between work and picking up the kiddos, and took in some of the ocean air. Nothing helps get your brain working at full capacity like a little sand, sun & surf!

On my way back to the office, I stopped off at Sawfish Bay Park. It’s just south of the A1A bridge and has a perfect view of the Jupiter Lighthouse & Intracoastal Waterway.
