It’s Back To Yoga For Me

This post originally posted HERE on May 27, 2015

So, for those of you that don’t know me that well, let me tell you a little bit about myself.  I’m a South Florida Native, born in Palm Beach Gardens Hospital (a few years back) and moved to Jupiter, Florida when I was 3 months old. I went to all three Jupiter schools and graduated from Jupiter High School. I love Jupiter! Seriously, it’s like the best town ever!

But I digress. Some other things about me are: I was a single Mom to a pretty amazing kid for 14 years. Almost 5 years ago I met a super cool dude named Avel, and this past January we got married!! It’s been a really fun adventure with LOTS of changes and I still can’t believe this is all really happening. <3

As happy as I am (and I really am), the last year has been 100 miles an hour and full of change. I got engaged, I left my job of 15 years to focus all my attention on real estate, I got married, I moved in with my husband, my daughter changed schools, and I gained 2 awesome step kids! All of this change has brought out a side of me that’s been rather dormant these last few years. I tend to be a “bit” of a worry wart. And when I say “bit” I mean FULL ON WORRY MONSTER! So big changes usually have a way of stressing me out. Now, I know, most people get kinda weird about big changes. It’s totally normal. What’s not normal is how I seem to deal with the kind of stress. For some reason I don’t realize how stressed out I am until my body literally tells me. Seriously, it’s so strange!

I first had a physical reaction to stress about 8 years ago, when I was having problems catching my breath. I couldn’t fully understand what was happening, so I went to Urgent Care to get it checked out. When I got there, the Doctor informed me I was having a panic attack and hyperventilating. I was like, “Say what!?”. She asked me if I had been under any stress lately, asked me to try and de-stress and told me if it didn’t get better, I may need to see someone or possibly even consider anti anxiety meds!

Because of that experience I learned to talk myself down, if I felt like I was starting up again. I seemed to be able to calm myself down and get over it before things turned into hyperventilating. So yay for that! Other things that happened to me due to stress, I have a leak in my retina and most recently, I got shingles!

From these experiences it is painfully obvious to me that I need to take better care of myself. The excuse of being too busy to exercise or eat well is just not going to cut it anymore. That’s where yoga comes in.

Last fall I discovered Kula Yoga Shala, right here in Jupiter. I did the beginning yoga class they offer several times, and really enjoyed it. But then life got crazy and i didn’t go back. Last week I went back! Instead of taking the beginner class, I opted for the Organic Vinyasa. It was SO hard, but really really good! I went back twice, with two different instructors and it totally kicked my butt! I was so sore!! Hahaha! The best part about yoga is that it’s totally personal. You do what feels good to your body, that is amazing! I was in a class with very skilled people, unlike myself, but I was still able to get a vigorous workout. Physically and mentally. I’m going to try and do two to three classes a week, eat better and get more sleep. Life’s too short to not take my health seriously!

Do you do yoga? Where do you go? What is your favorite type of class? Let me know, maybe I’ll join you for a class or two!

Thanks for reading, lovies. – Nicole

Meet Halle Frey of Flower & Fringe

This post was originally posted HERE on May 26, 2015

I found Halle on one of my many Instagram sessions. These mostly consist of me clicking on everything that looks interesting on Instagram! Halle’s images have beautiful floral arrangements and flower crowns…what’s not to love about that!? So, I reached out to her and she happily agreed to do an interview for the blog! So without further ado, I introduce to you, Halle Frey of Flower & Fringe!photo-48 copy 2

1. Tell us a little about yourself.

My Name is Halle Frey I was born and raised in Erie, PA. Took a big leap of faith and moved to WPB, Fl to attend college at Palm Beach Atlantic University. Did not know a soul here but as soon as I planted my feet I realized I was in the right place. Graduated in 2005 with a degree in Marketing and have been pursuing different dreams since. After many moves to different states and many many different jobs I am now calling West Palm home again.

I have a cute pup named Daisy Mae, which she came with her name. I thought it was appropriate since I love flowers. She’s a sweet rescue dog and looks like a mini golden retriever. No kids yet but a very handsome boyfriend, Matt, who I adore.

2. When did you start the Flower & Fringe brand and what are the services you offer?

Flower & Fringe has been a dream of mine since I was younger. My Aunt Karen had a flower shop when I was growing up in PA and she taught me everything I know. She’s crazy talented with flowers. It has always been a love of mine, one that I never thought I would really make into a business of my own. I started F&F a year and a half ago. I was just testing the waters for the first year, only doing it part-time. As of April 2015 I have decided to go full force with my business and now have a flower workshop located in Uptown Art’s West Palm Beach location. The focus for F&F is to create a unique floral experience for small intimate events, holiday gatherings and weddings. We also offer floral design workshops and the occasional whimsical bouquet to go. Attention to detail is very important with each bouquet, centerpiece or flower crown keeping to its organic look.

bridesmaid 23. Who makes up the Flower & Fringe crew?

Right now the F&F crew is just me with the occasional help of a willing friend or family member. My parents have been a huge support through this whole process.
halleflorals-354. What do you find most challenging about running your own business? What is the most rewarding thing about running your company?

Well as most business owners know there are good days and bad days, ups and downs. With owning my own business the thing I appreciate the most is being able to be creative and build something from the ground up. It has challenged me and grown me but you never know if you can accomplish something unless you try.

shea 55. Who is your favorite Superhero and why?

My superheros have always been both of my parents. I have seen my own father run his business and go through the highs and lows of it all, always supporting his family and being steadfast through different stages of life. My mom because she just graduated from college with a degree in Occupational Therapy Assistant. I don’t know how she did it but she did and it is a great reminder that its never too late.

Meet Lauren & Anna, from Urban Vintage Rentals

This post was originally posted HERE on Tuesday May 12th, 2015.

I “met” Lauren & Anna through instagram and Facebook. We have common online connections. I was in awe at their product photos for their business. It looks like they have a LOT of fun! So, I asked and they graciously agreed to do an interview for the blog. Yea! Warning: After reading this post you’re going to want to host a party, just so you can hire Lauren & Anna to stylize it!

View More: http://jessicabordnerphotography.pass.us/urbanvintagerentals1. Tell us a little about yourselves.

I’m Anna – I’m actually from Florida! I was born at Palm Beach Gardens hospital (almost!) 30 years ago 😉 I have two human babies – one girl named Harlee Faye, who is one, and a baby boy named Declan, who should arrive any day now! Our furry babies are Gypsy Lou (an adopted pit bull, who is my first baby) and Avery Jade (a spoiled miniature beagle). They make the best of friends and are great with our human babies!

I’m Lauren and I’m also a Florida native! I was born in Miami where I spent most of my childhood. In my teens my parents decided to move to Hobe Sound after falling in love with the sleepy little beach town. I have one fur baby, her name is Lola. She’s a rescued Cattle Dog or Blue Heeler. It took a few years of convincing for my husband to even warm up to the idea of getting a dog.. let alone a high energy herding dog.

After I Do-02212. When did you start the Urban Vintage brand?

We started it almost a year ago when Lauren decided it was time to quit the corporate world. We joined forces (and by forces, I mean, our hoard of random vintage stuff + our love of vintage shopping and styling) to do a couple styled shoots, we started a website, reached out to some amazing vendors and people in the industry, and we’ve been building ever since!

3. Who makes up the Urban Vintage crew?

Besides Lauren and I, our husbands! And our sisters and brothers, and whoever else we’ve managed to con into helping us move furniture for beer 🙂

View More: http://jessicabordnerphotography.pass.us/oakhillfarmvenue4. What do you find most challenging about running your own business?

Anna: Working too much. I could stay up for hours at night tweaking the website, coming up with new ideas, reaching out to the right clients and vendors – but I have to remember to keep that family/work/life balance. Otherwise, what’s the point of working so much if you can’t enjoy the fruits of your labor?

Lauren: Sometimes my mind can get all over the place.  I think setting a work schedule and making sure you stick to it is essential.

5. What is the most rewarding thing about running your company?

Anna: Seeing pictures like this.

View More: http://jessicabordnerphotography.pass.us/frezzaweddingLauren: I’m with Anna on this!  We’ve also met some amazing people in the industry. Feels really good to have that kind of support!  I also feel blessed to be doing what I love.
6. What do you do on your days off?

Anna: haha. days off? Boat days are my favorite days off.

Lauren: These days I feel like they have been spent trying to organize our growing inventory! Anna is really awesome at organizing I try to learn from her. Being outside, boating, kayaking, family time, being creative.

7. How do you juggle work & family?

By having an awesome support system – living near family has its benefits!

View More: http://jessicabordnerphotography.pass.us/harleefaye8. Who is your favorite Superhero and why?

Anna: I’ll leave this one to Lauren. She’s the one who wears superhero clothes. For me, anyone moms who can provide for their family, enjoy their career, and still get to spend quality time with their husband and children are rockstars in my book.

Lauren: I wanted to be Batman as a kid (Michael Keaton Batman).  I would literally play in my back yard and pretend I was I was Batman (oh and I was an only child so my imagination pretty awesome). I’ve been Batman for Halloween a few times.  I’m sort of a movie nerd. I love Michael Keaton Batman. Tim Burton has always been one of my favorite directors too.
After I Do-02159. Where can we find Urban Vintage online?
